ABOUT ME

Sara Rojo

I was born in Madrid, Spain. I graduated at Architecture and Urban design, University of Alcalá in 2007. My final project “Pontupuerta.com” (placeyourdoor.com) won the Schindler First National Prize of Architecture and it was selected at the IX Spanish Biennial Exhibition of Architecture and Urbanism.

I have gained experience from various projects working in Spain, The Netherlands, India, New Zealand and Indonesia.

In The Netherlands, I worked in Rotterdam at the Group A office of Architecture. Working in several middle scale projects from sketch design to tender document phase.

Subsequently, I followed my fascination and passion for building more sustainable and affordable homes. I travelled to India to lead a housing project and to research in the Auroville Earth Institute, India (UNESCO Chair Earthen Architecture).

Life brought me to New Zealand, where I taught at Design Studio 1, Department of Architecture, Unitec, Auckland, and worked part-time first at Bureaux Ltd (From high-end residential projects to furniture design) and later at Architectus.

After living in New Zealand my partner and I built a project to help, learn, teach, and raise awareness about sustainable construction and water management, local and appropriate systems in Australia and Indonesia.

I´ve given lectures about Earth Architecture as much as I´ve could and wherever I´ve been invited. I´m always looking for new challenges. What I really would love is to continue teaching whilst developing social and green architecture practices...
